The python was shot by Sir Annesley De Renzy, who came across the snake at a jungle edge constricting a monkey in circa 1880.
The line drawing in the book 'A Naturalist on the Prowl' 1894 is said to have been inspired by the this event.
The snake was brought to the UK, having adorned the wall of the billiards room at Aston Bury Manor, residence of Sir Annesley De Renzy's Grandson, Major-Genereal George Channer. Thence by descent to Dr Alan George De Renzy Channel, a specialist in the nexus between environmental restoration and peace building in Africa and Asia, and the great-great-grandson of Sir Annesley De Renzy.
